Rifles:
Caliber .22LR. Must be of American design, of the time period before 1890. It must have an exposed hammer, be single shot. Original or reproduction. The idea is to emulate the rifles used during the great buffalo hunt. Full sized buffalo rifles with a .22 caliber liner are correct to this competition.
Scopes must also fit into the time and design limits. Tubes may not be larger than 3⁄4 inch with objective lenses no larger than 1 inch, and may not have click adjustable sight correction.
Rifles and scopes for the non-compliant class are only restricted to .22lr caliber.
Classes:
We shoot three classes. Iron sight. Can be barrel sights or tang sights correct to the time period. Scope class, rifles and scopes must meet criteria. Non-compliant class, the only restriction is the .22lr caliber. (That means bring whatever 22 you have and come shoot with us.)
Course of fire: Outdoor Matches
40 shots. 10 shots at each of four animal silhouettes. Chickens are shot at 50 meters from the off-hand position. All other animals are shot from crossed sticks, either sitting or prone. (Seated on a short stool or chair is ok as long as there is no back support.) Pig targets are set at 100 meters, Turkey targets are set at 150 meters, and Ram targets are set at 200 meters. Targets are set in two groups of five each and are shot from left to right in order. Out of sequence targets are counted as a miss. Hit targets must fall over to be counted.
Shooters will have 8 minutes, 15 seconds on the clock. 15 seconds to load, and 8 minutes to fire 10 shots for score. Shooters may shoot sighter rounds during the 8 minutes if they wish.
Tips:
We will be sitting at the edge of the concrete slab with crossed sticks stuck in the dirt. So bring something to sit or lay on. A small mallet to smack the sticks in with is a good idea.
Spotting scopes are very important, as are spotters. If you don’t have one we will get you paired up with someone who does.
If you don’t have cross sticks, we will have some extras.
Bring enough ammo. There will be sight in time before the match, expect to shoot up 40 to 50 rounds sighting in if you have never shot this competition before.
Come and shoot. The object is to have fun, so grab a .22 and come shoot a new game.
Course of fire: Indoor Matches
Indoor matches have the same classifications and use the same rile and scope requirements. The differences are that all shots will be fired on paper targets from the fifty meter mark at the indoor range. We have cross sticks which are made to stand up on the floor
The match will be 40 shots. 10 shots each on four paper silhouettes which have been sized to mimic the sight picture seen when shooting at the outdoor knockdown targets. The chicken target will be shot from the off-hand position with the remaining targets shot from the cross sticks.
